Frequently asked questions
What We Policy Advisor covers, how current it is, how AI summaries are checked and how to get access.
What’s covered?
Federal, NSW, Victorian and Queensland policy and regulation, from July 2026 on, plus a first set of Western Australian and South Australian sources: WA legislation, and consultations and regulators in both states. Tasmania, the ACT and the Northern Territory come next.
How current is it?
Most sources are collected overnight; news pages every two hours through the day.
Is it legal advice?
No. Always check the official source.
How do I get access?
Request a demo and we’ll send you an access code.
Where does the information come from?
Official sources first: legislation registers and APIs, government media releases, regulators, consultation hubs, government gazettes and, where permitted, parliaments’ published data. We also collect from stakeholders: political parties and MPs (government, opposition and crossbench), think tanks and industry associations. Each item links to its official source.
Which sectors do you rate items for?
We rate items for 15 sectors: Healthcare, Technology, Energy, Aged care, Alcohol and beverages, Automotive, Aviation, Education, Financial services, Fintech, payments and digital assets, Hospitality, tourism and short-stay, Insurance, Professional services, Property, Sustainability.
How are AI summaries checked?
Where we hold the source text, each AI summary is checked automatically against it before it appears. Numbers, dates and IDs in the summary must appear in the source, and a second AI check reads it for faithfulness. If it doesn’t pass, you see the facts and the link. AI summaries are AI-generated: verify against the official source.
What do the labels mean?
Each item is labelled In force, Proposed by government, In Parliament, or Position or commentary. Rules and reviewers set the label, not the AI, so commentary never sits on par with policy.
Do you cover federal bills?
Not yet for bills still before the federal Parliament: we are waiting on Parliament data access. Federal Acts appear once they have passed, and the portal tracks state bills stage by stage.
Do you include party and think tank positions?
Yes, labelled as positions or commentary, whoever makes them. We aim to cover each party with a federal seat and each independent MP and senator on the same terms.
What happens when a site refuses automated access?
We follow each site’s robots.txt, crawl delays and terms of use, and we never work around a refusal. We ask the site’s owner for access instead, and where an agency offers email alerts they may be the route.
Where does it run?
Our database and AI models run in Australia. The database is Supabase, in Sydney. The AI models run on Amazon Web Services (Bedrock), in Sydney and Melbourne. The website is on Vercel, with its functions in Sydney.
What can I do in the portal?
The portal has a weekly AI briefing by sector; relevance ratings for 15 sectors; deadlines with days left; bills tracked stage by stage; the AI Advisor, with answers drawn only from our items and each point cited; saved searches and follows with email alerts; weekly or daily briefing emails; Word, PDF and CSV downloads; a private calendar link; and Ask a We adviser. WhatsApp alerts are next, not live.
